The heartbreaking photo of three-year-old Aylan Kurdi, who died along with his young brother and mother in an attempt to reach Greece was pictured on the front pages of most world publications this week as well as on many websites. The International Rescue Committee wants Washington to increase to 65,000 the number of Syrian refugees it will take before the end of next year. Some European countries are being overwhelmed by the size of the crisis.
It’s hard not to sympathize with the refugees. These are unfortunate people caught in the middle of an ugly and it seems unending civil war. Steve Bucci, a foreign and national security expert at The Heritage Foundation says “America’s leaders have a responsibility first to the American people and protecting them and ensuring their security is maintained.” That might be difficult with thousands seeking asylum.
Josh Siegel writes in the Daily Signal, to qualify as a refugee, a person must have been persecuted or have fear of being persecuted for his or her race, religion, nationality, or social and political affiliations. A refugee differs from a person seeking asylum in that refugees have already fled their country, but the same standards apply.

Lana Shadwick from Breitbart reports that the New York National Guard is sending one of its two UH-72 Lakota light utility helicopters and a four-man crew to the Arizona-Mexico border on Wednesday to assist with illegal activity and illegal immigration. The Army National Guard helicopter and its crew is being deployed to Marana, Arizona.http://www.breitbart.com/texas/2015/09/15/new-york-national-guard-deploys-assist-southwestern-border-security/
Breitbart Texas spoke with New York National Guard Public Affairs Officer, Major Al Phillips who said, “The deployment is part of ongoing support and does not relate to current headlines.”
Guardsmen will fly aerial reconnaissance missions along the border and will watch for illicit drug and human trafficking and illegal immigration activities. The Guardsmen are being sent to support other federal law enforcement officials there, including border patrol agents, and those with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies. The Guardsmen are being sent to support other federal law enforcement officials there, including border patrol agents, and those with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agencies.
Is the reason that our southern border seems to stop no one because the Feds don’t have enough equipment?
