Hack Attack-Yikes-How to Keep Hackers Away

The recent Anthem data attack was another reminder that the online world is filled with predators. Today we talk about how to fight them off and what to do if your data’s been compromised. The Anthem attack was scarier than other hack attacks because Anthem hackers had access to your Social Security number, unlike the Target and Home Depot breaches.

A recent MIT study found that, credit card data is sold to marketers in aggregate. Yet, even if the personal information is stripped out, hackers only need a maximum of 4 pieces of data in order to identify you.

Tips for preventing a hack attack:

  • Change passwords often. Create complex passwords. Consider a 2 factor authentication code such as google authenticator app for android and iPhone.
  • Take advantage of credit monitoring offered to consumers by companies who got hacked. Barbara got free credit monitoring after a recent Home Depot data breach.
  • Take advantage of credit card perks. In most cases, you are only liable for $50 of false charges.
  • Take advantage of the free credit report offers from each of the credit companies; Annual Credit Report.com

What if you’ve already been hacked?

Ask the credit bureaus to lock your credit. It’s free if your credit’s been compromised, if not, you may need to pay a fee.

Car Leasing Tips – The Inside Secrets from Bobby

Bobby needs a car now-enter, car leasing tops. Bobby doesn’t do anything without research. And so here are the top car leasing tips right from Bobby’s personal experience.

The car he can afford today isn’t the car he really wants. So he’s looking for a 24 month lease. Trust me, if anyone is a thorough researcher, it’s Bobby. Find out the resources he used and how he negotiated the best lease deal. These car leasing tips and resources will point you in the right direction.

True Car.com is a site which provides the last 90 days of auto sales prices for people in your area. This gives you a range of prices you can expect to pay for a purchase or lease.

Bobby used the True Car referral service for his lease, but met with a glitch. Once he walked in the door, there were many surprises. (Not in his favor.)

When leasing (and buying) a vehicle, be aware of monthly payment tricks. Be aware of the actual price you’re paying, not only the monthly payment.

Don’t be surprised when the sales agent pitches extra costs and add-ons; acquisition and termination fees. Do your due diligence to find out which if any are required and which fees are ways to squeeze you for extra cash.

Leasing has its own lingo. Know the terms; cap cost, residual values and more.

Lease guide.com helps you figure out what you should be paying. The company sells a leasing kit with extra help.

This handy calculator at cars.com has an auto lease versus buy and residual value calculator. Since the residual value is very important when leasing a car, this is useful in the car buying versus leasing decision-making process.

Final words-don’t be afraid to walk away if you were promised a certain price which doesn’t materialize at the dealer.

Wealth Tips

Don’t sweat the investing, getting started is more important than waiting until you’re an expert.

Saving trumps savvy, start putting money away now. But first, build up a cash cushion before diving into the investment arena.

Spend less to enjoy it more. You may be surprised that if you delay gratification and spend less, you’ll likely enjoy it more.

Many individuals prefer spending on experiences rather than things. Think about whether the memories made from experiences versus are more valuable than the act of accumulating more and more.
