Top Trends for 2015

Find out which top trends and economic predictions are predicted to surge this year. Some of them aren’t too much of a surprise as they’ve taken a big leap in 2014 as well.

Peak Physical Currency

A recent visit to my local grocery store revealed that Apple pay is gaining traction. The checker said that more and more consumers are using these alternative payment systems. Now, it could be because we live in the Bay area, or alternative currencies may really be catching hold. More alternate cash payment systems are cropping up each day, and if they actually live up to their promise of simplifying life, then they are destined to grow. We talk about the ins and outs of the newer currencies and payment systems.

This economic prediction is becoming a reality in my neighborhood. What about yours?

Well-th

This trend is a take off on the W-E-A-L-T-H idea. Instead of pertaining only to money, the new trend of well-th focuses on a holistic view of wealth and incorporates a variety of factors:

Being accountable to yourself and others.

Living the work-life balance. Bobby chimes in as a big advocate of this philosophy, although he has a hard time selling the concept to his millenial peers.

Give back to society-growth of idealism. Who can argue with this one? Let’s all hope that we get out of ourselves for a minute or two and consider the plight of those around us.

Wealth>Being Well-If you don’t feel well, all the money in the world won’t make life beautiful. Wellness focus isn’t actually a new trend but more of a continuing one.

Mobile Optimization and the Autonomous World

We’re moving towards using our phones for everything……

Robots are becoming a reality.

Do you think we’ll really see the growth of personal robot assistants? Acutally, if you have a smart phone, you’re already depending upon Siri and her clones to answer many of your important and silly queries.

Not to date myself too much, but-I remember when video chat was a dream for the future.

This is another one of those ‘easy to predict’ trends because this is one of the economic predictions which is becoming a reality.

Forbes.com shares the “Top 15 Trends for 2015“, curated by Sarwant Singh.

Use Twitter to Predict Economic Trends 2015

This is a new twist on the economic prediction game. We used Akin Oyelel’s Business Insider article, “Credit Suisse’s 2015 Outlook For Everything in 30 Tweets“, to inspire this conversation.

Credit Suisse (CS) predicted that the  S&P 500 will go up to 2,250 and end at 2,200. At prediction time, the S&P 500 was trading in the 2,000 range. Thus it was predicted to go up 10%.

As of August 21, 2015, the S&P 500 dropped to 1,970, so it’s got some ground to cover to hit their prediction.

At the time of taping, Barb thought that may be a bit too optimistic a prediction for 2015. Bobby’s not sure. So far, at mid-August, Barb’s winning!

Credit Suise predict’s that oil prices will rebound to pre crisis highs. We talk about the cyclical nature of the economy and business in general. Learn a bit of economic theory as we talk about the cyclical nature of commodities and the ecnomy in general.

CS predicted that China is at risk of a bubble in housing, credit, and investment. These sectors are likely overvalued. At mid-year, the Chinese prediction is coming to pass as the Chinese market tumbles and the Chinese Yuan is devalued. We also bring in conversation about the Asian contagion of 1997.

Spain’s economy is expected to look up. Another prediction that seems to be coming true!

We continue to talk about the inter-connectedness of the global economies. Find out the other ways the global economies interact.

We even riff a bit on popular culture with a reference to the classic Trading Places movie.

50 Ways to Improve Your Finances for 2015

Yahoo!Finance syndicated this U.S. News and World Report by Kimberly Palmer, who shares some inspiring ideas to improve your finances. We take these smart money ideas a bit further.

1. Pay off high interest rate consumer debt first. It keeps you from building wealth. Bobby admits-he has debt and shares his tips for keeping his rate low and how it’s like a crack addiction.

2. Don’t accept posted prices. Look for ways to knock those prices way down. Bobby shares his secret tip to get unbelievably low prices.

3. Don’t time the market.  We talk about how difficult {impossible} it is to know when to buy and when sell. Market timers usually fail to beat the market averages.

In fact, don’t even look at your investments most days. You won’t be tempted to trade and you’ll likely yield higher returns.

4. Earn money from more than one source. It’s helpful to have more than one  income path. We talk about strategies to set up side-hustle gigs and other income streams.

and more………

Tune in for the last tips-One is a strategy to turn small amounts of money into a huge nest egg. The other is a twist on the simplicity idea.

Tune in for economic trends, tips, inspiration, education, and a good laugh.
