Set to brand new music by Ian Cooke Band, this sci-fi ballet follows a daring heroine as she travels the galaxy in an odyssey-esque adventure to rescue her kidnapped love.“I’m thrilled Wonderbound is opening its 2017-2018 season in collaboration with Ian Cooke Band,” said WonderboundArtistic Director Garrett Ammon. “Ian’s new album, THE FLIGHT I FLEW, is adventurous, heartfelt and quixotic and has provided the soundtrack to a new production that continues our tradition of creating accessible and surprising new dance for the Denver community.I was raised on Star Wars, Star Trek and Planet of the Apes, so creating a sci-fi ballet is a fantastic adventure that has captured my imagination. I hope it does the same for audiences.”When the love of her life and famed scientific mind is stolen by unknown forces, a space-faring heroine embarks on a treacherous journey through the galaxy to get him back. Traveling in her trusty hot air balloon and accompanied by a mysterious and plucky sidekick, she battles through space octopi, cowboy sirens and more in her quest to reunite with the one she loves. This astral world premiere, set to the live music of Ian Cooke Band, will feature interstellar projections, space-traveling puppets, and of course, the stunning Wonderbound dancers.“I’m so excited to be working with Wonderbound again on an all-new show with all-new music,” said Ian Cooke. “Developing this space-themed adventure with Garrett has been a wonderful process and I can’t wait to see it unfold. Who doesn’t love a sci-fi love story?”Celestial Navigation will feature the world premiere of Ian Cooke’s fourth album, THE FLIGHT I FLEW. The cosmos-inspired songs transcend from the unrequited love songs of his debut album, The Fall I Fell, to the personal struggle with love lost and then re-found. Showcasing Cooke’s signature cello, piano, and voice, this progressive folk pop album illustrates a battle with inner demons which leads to an awakening of self and a realization of love. THE FLIGHT I FLEW will be released October 20. Audiences will be able to purchase advance copies of the album at each production.
