This week I moved away from the producers and distributors in the local food movement, and backed up and took a broader look with someone who has been reporting on community resilience for the last decade. I have to tell you the change of pace was refreshing and the conversation was rich. In this episode you will get to enjoy Shawndra Miller and myself discuss her writing career (briefly but we cover so much that most things are briefly touched), the grange movement, her pending book, her getting to meet Rob Hopkins at a permaculture and transition convergence, an organic-only mill in Carthage, Indiana that was set up by Anna Welch, the Ki Ecocenter in Indy, a workshop she is going to attend on natural building with the Mudgirls up in B.C., how she learned some new skills while visiting a homeschool co op in Bloomington, IN, the DIY (do it yourself) and DIWO (do it with others) ethic, The wake up the Earth festival in Boston, the upcoming Radical Mycology Convergence in Orange, Ill., alternative medicine, and finally we spent some time just discussing the changes she has seen in attitudes towards local food and community resilience efforts over the last decade in Indianapolis. It was a fun interview to do and I hope you enjoy it as well. Places you can find Shawndra's writing: Nuvo, Farm Indiana, Acres USA, and of course her Blog
