Shownotes

First hour: Documentary writer Chuck Harter (Hey, Hey, We’re The Monkees) joins Ed, Tony and Donna for Part 2 of our look at the history of The Monkees and their impact on music and television. Topics include the songs written by Boyce and Hart, Neil Diamond and Mike Nesmith (and particularly how Mike’s songs each have a distinct signature of their own); how the Monkees world tour of 1967 changed the dynamics of The Monkees television series (both seasons of which are now available on Blu-ray) while also revolutionizing sound systems for live concerts; the Monkees feature motion picture Head; and how the ill-fated NBC special 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee marked the beginning of the end of the group. An accomplished musician himself, Chuck also performs two Monkees tunes. Second hour: Ed welcomes Judy Norton, the actress known around the world as Mary Ellen Walton on The Waltons. Judy recently wrote, produced and stars in Inclusion Criteria, a psychological thriller that is now available for streaming on demand on Amazon. Topics include how Judy came to write Inclusion Criteria; her offbeat web series Disorganized Zone; the decade she spent as a writer, director and performer in Canada; and working with Broadway star Tammy Grimes on The Tammy Grimes Show.
