Hey This is Michael 'Medium Rare' O'Donnell with http://cavetools.com and in this tutorial video we're going to teach you how to crack open walnuts with a meat tenderizer mallet. So what you need to do is put the walnut down, preferably on a cutting board with the seam where the shell meets facing up. Just take one quick shot, right at the seam. If you do it right, the shell is just going to fall perfectly apart and you're going to have a perfect walnut. Now you really don't need to hit it that hard every single time. You'll see that this time we hit it a little bit too hard and the shell cracked and mixed in with the walnut. This isn't too bigger deal because we can just separate the walnuts from the shell, but if you're doing a lot of walnuts at once, you want to get good at it. So just hit it enough so that just the shell cracks and you get all your walnut perfect every time. And as you saw, the meat tenderizing mallet isn't just for tenderizing meat. There's a tonne of other awesome uses for it in the kitchen. Whether you need to use it for crushing nuts, garlic, hard candy, ice- pretty much anything else, it's just incredibly easy and useful tool to have around the kitchen.
