John O'Neal is a retired Steel worker who spent most of his 42 year career in the Quality end of the business in Lorain, Ohio. While there he invented two pieces of hardware that USS ultimately patented An amateur astronomer for over 40 years, his proudest achievement has been chronicling over 40 comets in 40 years. As a solar enthusiast, he's logged many hours of public outreach, published tutorials and articles and images and has a huge on-line presence and following, including his part in the founding of the Facebook group SOLARACTIVITY. Two decades ago he became a licensed Ham Radio Operator, sparking an interest in Radio Astronomy, which resulted in his building several radio telescopes. This talk discusses his interest in the SID or Sudden Ionosphere Disturbance, and the reciever he built to study this radio phenomenon.
