The result was a “left knee dis-articulation and a right above knee amputation of my legs.” Through his recovery he subsequently trained for and competing in rowing in the Paralymics, where he won a bronze medal with his scull teammate. In 2013, he conducted a solo/supported bike ride across the country and raised more than $125,000 for for the Coalition to Salute America's Heroes, the Injured Marine Semper Fi Fund, and Ride 2 Recovery.
