Mahmood Jafari believes that people have the power to change the course of history. His passion for peace drives creative fundraising efforts to support the Red Cross, Red Crescent and refugee orphanages in Iran. About Mahmood Jafari: Mahmood Jafari is dedicated to bringing awareness to world humanity& peace. He grew up in Iran during turbulent times, and at the age of 18, he became a soldier in the Iran-Iraq war. Mahmood survived his tour of duty but, after returning home, he was shot in the back while walking down the street in Tehran. The injury put him in the hospital for two years and left him paralyzed from the chest down. Instead of being depressed, Mahmood lives his life helping others. He moved to Canada In 1997, and returns to Iran often to share his vision of peace, raise funds for the Red Cross and Red Crescent and refugee orphanages, and works to change stereotypes about"differently abled" people. Mahmood believes that,"People have the power to change the course of history." Personal Mantra: خدیا همه شکر نعمت تو کنند من شکر داشتن تو GOD, People thank you for food or what ever you give them I am thankful to just have you. ~ Abu al-Hassan al-Kharaqani, Sufi philosopher One of his greatest challenges: Mahmood reflects on the importance of carrying through even when a project he was working on fell apart. When he knows the work he is doing is making a difference: “I like to encourage people to not think that when they want to do something special that it has to be huge.” Practical Advice: His friends told him, if you need the money I’ll give it to you, why do you want to wheel from Banff to Calgary? Mahmood’s response: I don’t need the money…I need the humanity! People should have a big goal and lots of patience. Best strategies for funding: Respect the sponsors, respect their money, and be honest with them. Personal Practice That Keeps Him Going on the Tough Days “Every day is a gift.” Recommended books and films: Poem by Saadi Shirazi from The Gulistan of Sa'di: “The children of Adam are limbs of each other Having been created of one essence. When the calamity of time afflicts one limb The other limbs cannot remain at rest.
