Have you ever heard of Pickleball? Well according to the USA Pickleball Association the sport is exploding and it’s made its way to our shores. The sport, which is kind of like tennis with a twist, even has its own online channel… yes really. It was first invented in 1965 as a family game and has rules in place to even the playing field meaning it’s a mixed gender and mixed ability sport. It arrived first in Auckland in the past few years and has now spread across the North Island with various clubs popping up. But what is it actually? And why is it one of the fastest growing sports in the country. Pickleball New Zealand co-ordinator explains. And it wouldn’t be Fair Play without some mention of cricket. The White Ferns broke world records recently against Ireland, and have been doing well against England and South Africa in the recent tri-series.Â
