Making Culture is the first in-depth report on K12 Education Makerspaces nationwide. The report, authored by ExCITe Director Youngmoo Kim, Kareem Edouard, Katlyn Alderfer, and Brian Smith, examines the culture behind makerspaces and the impact it can have on the students within these spaces. Postdoctoral fellow and lead researcher on the Making Culture report Kareem Edouard sat down with us to share his findings. We also spoke with Matt Riggan, co-founder of The Workshop School in West Philadelphia. The Workshop School is an alternative high school with a focus on collaboration, building, and hands-on learning. Matt talks about how the culture of The Workshop School shapes his students, and how he and his team are making an effort to create a space that is welcoming and hospitable to all.
