True Life Church   /     Which Is Right: Creation or Evolution

Description

Creation and evolution is a highly debated and very important subject. Let’s start by defining the two positions. Microevolution is change within a species while macroevolution is change from one species to another.Creationism: It says that the Creator created life suddenly with intelligent design within the parameters of fixed “kinds.”

“Which Is Right: Creation Or Evolution?”
Sermon Series:  “The God Questions”

Introduction:  Creation and evolution is a highly debated and very important subject.  Let’s start by defining the two positions. Evolution (Merriam Webster online dictionary):  “Descent with modification from preexisting species :  cumulative inherited change in a population of organisms through time leading to the appearance of new forms :  the process by which new species or populations of living things develop from preexisting forms through successive generation.”  Microevolution is change within a species while macroevolution is change from one species to another.Creationism:  It says that the Creator created life suddenly with intelligent design within the parameters of fixed “kinds.”

Let’s examine this scientifically and biblically:

Reasons To Affirm Creationism Instead Of Evolution

1.  The Cosmological Argument

2.  The Moral Law (conscience)

3.  Appearance of Intelligent Design

4.  Law of biogenesis-Spontaneous generation is impossible.

5.  Evolution violates the law of cause and effect (There is a cause for every effect, an actor for every action, and a thinker for every thought.)  Lee Strobel asserts that in order to accept evolution, we have to believe:  Nothing produce everything, non-life produces life, randomness produces fine-tuning, chaos produces information, unconsciousness produces consciousness, and non-reason produces reason.

6.  The evidence supports microevolution but not macroevolution.

       A.  The fossil record doesn’t really prove it.

       B.  We don’t see it happening in nature today.

       C.  Scientific experiments haven’t been able to create it.

       D.  Mutations are generally harmful.

       E.  Irreducible Complexity

7.  The Anthropic Principle “which states that the physical structure of the universe is exactly what it must be in order to support life” (Charles Colson).

7.  The Anthropic Principle “which states that the physical structure of the universe is exactly what it must be in order to support life” (Charles Colson).

Colossians 1:15-20

1.  Jesus is God (v. 15-18).

2.  Jesus is God who created all things (v. 15-17).

A.  He is the Sovereign over creation.

B.  He is the Architect of creation.

C.  He is the Agent of creation.

D.  He is the Purpose of creation.  I am here to live for Christ.  We are created “for Him.”

E.  He is the Sustainer of creation (v. 17).  Kenneth Wuest writes, “Lightfoot translates; ‘hold together, cohere.’  He says; ‘He is the principle of cohesion in the universe.  He impresses upon creation that unity and solidarity which makes it a cosmos (an ordered system) instead of a chaos (an unformed mass).”

3.  Jesus is God the Creator who became a part of His creation (v. 15, 19, 2:9).

4.  Jesus is God the Creator who became a part of His creation in order to die for and redeem His fallen creation (v. 19-20).

Conclusion:

Where did we come from?   I came through the intelligent design of a perfect Creator.  I am in this place in this time (Acts 17) because of God’s sovereign will.

Who are we?  We are the greatest and highest creation of God.  We are made in His image.  We are created for a relationship with God.  We have dignity, value, and purpose simply because of this fact.

What am I worth?  Well, I believe that if God placed a price tag on us, it would say,  “J-E-S-U-S.”

Why are we here?  We are here to live for Jesus Christ.  We are here to glorify Him and do His will.  He has a purpose for our lives that gives meaning and satisfaction to our lives.
