In it, he writes about his struggles with eating disorders and addiction, abuse, and his relationship with his mother. TriPod’s Laine Kaplan-Levenson sat down with Laymon to talk about what his students at the University of Mississippi think about New Orleans, his memoir, and how his literary success fits into a growing trend of black writers from the south receiving national attention.
