Hellbender Hops TalkFor this episode I am unlocking the vault of recorded goodies I started collecting for this a few months ago. Join me as we travel back in time to this summer. To a time not that long ago, to a place not that far away, to a "Celebration of Fermentation."Hops in the Hills had kicked off their inaugural event on the weekend of June 26 - 27, 2015 in the downtown area of Maryville, TN. This was my second ever beer festival after attending Knoxville's Brewfest a few weeks prior. I was not only there to meet the brewers who made this new wonderful stuff I craved, I was on an educational journey as well. With a business name like Inebriated Wisdom, I kinda had to deliver to myself first before I could pass along information to you guys and girls.There I met the wonderful people that were busily putting together the final touches before opening to the public. We took a short trip next door to Barley's where people were busy eating a good meal to prepare for the beer battle about to unfold. There I met Trent Gilland, with Hellbender Hops in Townsend, TN. He was to give the initial presentation on the actual growing of hops here in East Tennessee.Quickly I set up the mobile rig and Trent was off educating the full room of attendees on the art, and yes it is truly an art form, of growing hops here in Tennessee. I learned more that day about hops that I had read in a few weeks prior. Me being a beer newbie and all I was and still consider myself a little behind, but I'm catching up quick! The Growing Hops talk was received well and there were lots of questions answered to give everyone a good idea of what to expect if you are looking into becoming a hop farmer.Be not afraid of hard work, and have the patience to see your rewards... I hope to make it to his farm sometime soon and have a sit down with Trent.
