Summary

We are living in a world that is under progress at every single moment. New inventions are coming into existence all the time and technology is advancing so fast that it is becoming difficult to keep track of ''what's the new thing''. At the same time we are being taught to think differently and our morals and values are changing. Many things that were considered an evil a few decades ago are now being promoted as something beautiful. Many things that were considered great, are now being called out-dated and backwards. This brings us to the topic of religion. It seems like most religions are changing their values of right and wrong and adapting what the modern society promotes as good and evil. On the contrary we have Islam and Muslims who are holding on to their values compared to other religions. Due to this we are having a sort of clash of values and Muslims are being portrayed as a backward nation.

What can the society expect from Muslims? Is it their right to change Islam? Or do they have to accept Muslims for what they believe? But why can't Islam change? Is it not true that Muslims are using technology and other aspects of the modern society? So who draws the line for what Muslims can modernize and what cannot be changed in Islam? And who is to decide what is right and wrong? These important questions and many more will be explored in this lecture by Dr. Haitham al-Haddad.
