Once again coming to you from the University of Arizona, the Drake Building, at the OSIRIS-REx SPOC, I had the great pleasure of sitting down with Carl Hergenrother. Carl is the Lead Scientist for the Astronomy Working Group of the OSIRIS-REx mission. Carl has been working on the project since its earliest days and is an observer in the field of astronomy. He does not have a Ph.D., which we discuss, which has in no way stopped him from performing excellent science. Through our discussions Carl educates us on what it means to follow a slightly different path than many who are in science. He discusses his passion for all things astronomical. He also provides us clear insight into how he made one of the most awesome discoveries to date about Bennu–that it is an active asteroid. I really enjoyed our discussions and will invite Carl back again in the near future. He’s an amazing observer, scientists, and person! I am so honored he sat down with me.
