  • About - Digging the Digital — Sinds 2 decennia werk ik in de online industrie. Startups, corporate en de bureauwereld, ik heb ze van binnen gezien en meegemaakt. Ik ben een goede sparringpartner bij de inzet van digitale middelen, de bewegingen in online communicatie en de effecten op mens en maatschappij.
  • IndieWebCamp Nederland – Take the web in your hands
  • Kirk and Blackbeard | We make digital growth happen — We are captains with a pirate mentality The people that will supercharge your team with knowledge, energy and all experience necessary for a radical shape shift. Because what brought you here won’t get you to your next destination.
  • Can “Indie” Social Media Save Us? | The New Yorker — If we itemize the woes currently afflicting the major platforms, there’s a strong case to be made that the IndieWeb avoids them. When social-media servers aren’t controlled by a small number of massive public companies, the incentive to exploit users diminishes. The homegrown, community-oriented feel of the IndieWeb is superior to the vibe of anxious narcissism that’s degrading existing services. And, in a sense, decentralization also helps solve the problem of content moderation.
  • Ruined by Design — The world is working exactly as designed. And it’s not working very well. Which means we need to do a better job of designing it. Design is a craft with an amazing amount of power. The power to choose. The power to influence. As designers, we need to see ourselves as gatekeepers of what we are bringing into the world, and what we choose not to bring into the world. Design is a craft with responsibility. The responsibility to help create a better world for all.

  • Charlie Owen – Düsseldorf 2019 — We so often consider constraints to be a negative. We have become convinced that they stop us doing what we want and that, therefore, they prevent us from being our most creative. But constraints are actually the most beautiful thing in the world. Constraints are what give us direction. Constraints are what give us focus. Constraints are what give us empathy.
  • Dorobot – Düsseldorf 2019 — Napworking An introduction to the science of napworking and how it helped me getting things done and being more creative while spending a lot of time on the couch.
  • Tantek Çelik – Düsseldorf 2019 — Take Back Your Web We used to control our online identities, content, and experience. We now share Twitter names instead of domains; even web developers tweet and post on Medium instead of their own sites. We scroll social media and feel empty instead of reading news & blogs to feel informed and connected. Algorithmic feeds amplify rage & conspiracies, enabling tribal ad-targeting to polarise and spread misinformation, threatening democracy itself. What happened? And what are we doing to fix it? That's a big question that will require all of us, our communities, our employers, to shift. I don't want to wait, and you probably don't either. What can you do for yourself, today? Own your domain. Own your content. Own your social connections. Own your reading experience. IndieWeb services, tools, and standards enable you to take back your web.
  • David Bowie on the internet – in 1999. - YouTube — Watch Bowie perfectly predict the internet's impact on music and society 15 years ago.
  • A Genocide Incited on Facebook, With Posts From Myanmar’s Military - The New York Times — Members of the Myanmar military were the prime operatives behind a systematic campaign on Facebook that stretched back half a decade and that targeted the country’s mostly Muslim Rohingya minority group, the people said. The military exploited Facebook’s wide reach in Myanmar, where it is so broadly used that many of the country’s 18 million internet users confuse the Silicon Valley social media platform with the internet. Human rights groups blame the anti-Rohingya propaganda for inciting murders, rapes and the largest forced human migration in recent history.

  • 2019/Utrecht - IndieWeb — The importance of owning your data is getting more awareness every year. But there is still a lot of work to do to help people to understand what the IndieWeb is and “owning your data” actually means at all. Besides the growth, there is also the need to start building bridges to other areas of interest where the IndieWeb principles can be of importance. To start connecting, building bridges, find the others and to help people getting started, we're meeting for a bar-camp like collaboration in Utrecht for two days of brainstorming, working, collaborating, teaching, helping and much more.
  • Playdate. A New Handheld Gaming System — For over 20 years Panic has mostly made Mac and iOS software. Twenty years is a long time, and we wanted to try some new things. To make the most of what we have. That’s why we started publishing games, like Firewatch and, soon, Untitled Goose Game. But what if we could push ourselves even further? What if we could build something? A real something that you could hold? It was harder than we thought, but it’s here.
