I sat down with Patrick Michel, one of the most dynamic and positively passionate scientists I have ever had the great delight in working with or interviewing. Recorded 16 July 2019.
Coming to you from the SPOC (Science Processing and Operation Center) in the Drake Building of the University of Arizona, I sat down Dr. Patrick Michel, Directeur de Recherches au CNRS, Responsable de l’Équipe TOP (Théories et Observations en Planétologie). Patrick is a Co-I on Hayabusa2 and on OSIRIS-REx, a researcher who studies the dynamics of the evolution of small rocky bodies within the Solar System through numerical modeling, and a truly outstanding communicator of science to the world. We discussed some of his great life passions, both science and personal, his view of science and life, and his advise on how to live a full life. He went into detail on some of his experiences on various space missions and also discuss potential future of space exploration missions. Following a theme from a previous episode with Prof. Bill Boynton, we explored how science has no boarders, how important it is for scientists to travel the world and become immersed in other cultural systems and learn how scientists from other cultures perform science. Patrick was also on a bit of a life-high from having met with his friend can colleague, Dr. Brian May, who had visited the SPOC the day before (Brain is also a member of the OSIRIS-REx science team). It was a truly great honor for me to sit down with Patrick and discuss so much. Thank you, Patrick, for a wonderful discussion. Please note this episode is a bit longer previous ones and I am so glad for that. Please come back and talk with us in the future, Dr. Michel.
