MedicCast Episode 503
Good day and welcome to this week’s episode of the MedicCast. I’m your host, Jamie Davis the Podmedic and I’d like to welcome you to this week’s show. First up we have a special interview with Christian Adams who gave bystander CPR to a collapsed man she encountered on a jogging trail. She was assisted by the dispatcher in what she should do to continue doing good, high-quality CPR on the man in cardiac arrest.
Then we will go back to check out another special segment from EMS World Expo in New Orleans with a look at what it takes to be a Maryland State Police paramedic on their medevac helicopters. I interview a State Trooper about the opportunities available for the right paramedic in their department. Then we look at one of our product picks from EMS World Expo in the final segment.
All of these segments this week were recorded thanks to the continuing support and sponsorship of the Physio-Control corporation. Thank them for supporting your EMS podcasting community. Also brought to you in part by a partnership with the American Heart Association and their excellent CPR resources.

Tip Segment:
Christiana Adams had been trained in CPR at work but never expected to have to use it in public in a place like a neighborhood jogging trail. But that’s exactly what she ended up doing when she encountered a man collapsed on a trail near her home. She credits the help of the 911 dispatcher and telephone CPR assistance with helping to save the man’s life. Check out this segment about the benefits of telephone CPR with Christiana brought to you as part of our ongoing partnership with the American Heart Association.
Next up in our episode are two segments recorded at EMS World Expo. The first is a look at the unique job opportunities available for paramedics with law enforcement agencies like the Maryland State Police. Then we’ll have a look at how new Virtual Reality technology to be used in EMS continuing and initial education. It’s my pick of the show for a new and innovative EMS product from DistanceCME.com. Check these two segments out.
