AnthroTalking   /     Special Edition on the Mediterranean Migration Crisis

Description

The ongoing migration crisis in the Mediterranean has led to countless deaths, policy responses and widespread outrage towards the European Union's mismanagement of its humanitarian response. Much of the criticism has come from the interdisciplinary academic field of Migration Studies. For this special edition AnthroTalking interviewed three important figures in the field of migration studies: Shahram Khosravi, Associate Professor at Stockholm University’s Social Anthropology Department and author of “Illegal Traveller: An Auto-Ethnography of Borders”; Ruben Andersson, post-doctoral fellow at the London School of Economics and Political Science’s Civil Society and Human Security Research Unit and author of the award-winning “Illegality Inc.”; and Peo Hansen, Professor at Linköping University’s REMESO – The Institute for Research on Migration, Ethnicity and Society and co-author of “Eurafrica: The Untold History of European Integration and Colonialism”. We talked about whom or what is to blame for the crisis in the Mediterranean, the European response and what needs to be done to stop people from drowning.
