For this episode, we are interviewing computational biologist and Assistant Professor Duygu Ucar. This is our first full episode with the new audio equipment, so you can fully appreciate Duygu’s great Turkish accent! We discuss Duygu’s research interests in epigenetics and aging, and we cover the professional and personal motivations for her transition from mathematics and data-mining to biology. We also discuss collaborations with UConn Health, the declining immune system, the difficulty of data integration, cultural integration and its effects on Turkish cuisine, and the challenging political landscape facing Turkish expatriates. Note: This episode was recorded before the events that occurred in Turkey on July 15, 2016.
