Shownotes

You Can (Not) Handle The AV

This episode comes with a slew of caveats. Underwriters like Sennheiser and Extron as well as a guest from the company that owns us. Either way, it’s time to take a look at the latest news coming out of the commercial side of the AV industry. Here to help us break down these stories is Global Services Manager for Verrex Charmaine Torruella, Business Development Manager for Bridges System Integration Mariela Pilotte, and Regional Vice President for CTI Tobi Tungl.

The Interactive Multimedia & Collaborative Communications Alliance is coming to CEDIA Expo 2021 as a strategic programming partner for the show in September. We know that this is a primarily commercial based show but the segments being covered by the IMCCA dips into that blurry line called the resimercial space. Unified collaboration and conferencing solutions have made their way into both commercial and residential spaces as the pandemic forced many employees to work from home, so it’s not entirely unprecedented. That said, what does it mean for a group that is usually so focused on the commercial side into a mainly residential show? What this might mean for both IMCCA and CEDIA down the line.

Sonova Holding is acquiring Sennheiser’s consumer electronics business. This deal will be finalized by the end of the year. They announced in February that the company would be focusing more on the professional side of their solutions and finding a partner for their consumer electronics, so this is a step in that direction. What exactly does this mean for the company to be leaning on the commercial side? Will this have an impact on our industry? Discussing the potential impact of the Sennheiser brand as these moves are being made. During the discussion, the existence of the absurdly priced Sennheiser HE 1 headphones is brought to light.

Extron’s enterprise AV over IP system NAV has been deployed in the University of North Carolina Wilmington’s Allied Health Veterans Hall. This pandemic has shown the efficacy of AV over IP systems and their uses in spaces like higher education. That being said, have we actually hit a spot in the commercial market for AV over IP? Gauging the interest of AV over IP and whether it has a place in the current and future space.
