Podcast: Community exCHANGE   /     (S01E02) Reproductive Justice for Trans& Gender Nonconforming Folks in Women's Prisons

Description

Joss will discuss the reproductive injustices facing trans and gender nonconforming people in women’s prisons and why it is impossible to imagine trans wellness or health in these institutional settings. Drawing from his volunteer work with the Sylvia Rivera Law Project, Justice Now, and the Transgender Gender Variant Intersex Justice Project, he will describe how activists in and outside of prison are challenging involuntary sterilizations, neglect of trans-affirming care, forced feminization, sexual violence, and other harms. He will conclude with a critique of the proposed “mental health” jail construction in San Francisco and discuss why self-determination, which is key to healing and mental health, is impossible in a carceral environment.
