She also works as a business coach. * Lynn is strategic in her approach to helping therapists develop their private practices by having them complete a free survey on her website, which gets them thinking about themselves and their goals (http://privatepracticesuccess.com/). * Dealing with the “imposter syndrome” can be challenging. One thing that helps with this is to identify results (i.e., small indicators of success) in each session with a client and to communicate these results to them. * Lynn pointed out “high-value offerings” provided by Cindy that any therapist could provide to their clients: communicating to clients that she is going to 1) be present, 2) bring all her knowledge of what happened in the session to the forefront for their benefit, and 3) is going to make sure that she met the goals for a session and - if she doesn’t do this on a consistent basis - will look for other therapists who might be able to help them meet their goals. * Lynn helps therapists consider what types of things they want for themselves in terms of developing their practices and to strategize methods of bringing these things to fruition. * In terms of efforts you put in to growing/developing/marketing your practice focus more on the process as opposed to the results of your efforts. It is important to detach yourself emotionally from the results of your efforts.  Your practice will grow as a result of marketing and providing high quality services.  You may need support to help you in your efforts early on as you develop your practice. * Strong entrepreneurs are very persistent. * The best antedote for anxiety that comes along when building your practice is “doing” – not random doing, but doing with a plan/strategy. Networking figures into the plan. * Stumbling blocks of developing a private practice – establishing contacts/networking because you feel like you are begging for referrals. However, if you view it from the standpoint of “you have a resource - your services” - and believe in the quality of your resources then letting people know about that in an informational way (i.e., a way that could potentially help them down the road) is a way of reframing how you think about this and thereby reduce your anxiety about networking. * It is important to use an Excel spreadsheet to keep track of your money and to become intimately familiar with where and how money is coming in and going out.
