Give it a try.4 square (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate2/3 cup shortening2 cups sugar4 eggs1 teaspoon vanilla1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour1 teaspoon baking powder1 cup chopped nuts (optional)¾ cup chocolate chips (optional) Heat oven to 350°. Grease rectangular baking pan,13x9X2 inches. Heat chocolate and shortening in 3-quart saucepan over low heat until melted; remove from heat. Stir in sugar, eggs and vanilla. Mix in remaining ingredients. Spread in pan. Bake until brownies begin to pull away from the sides of the pan, about 30 minutes. (Do not overbake.) Cool completely; cut into bars, about 2 X 1 ½ inches. Frost or sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes about 3 dozen; 140 calories each. Well, that's it.
