This podcast was recorded live at the Indiegogo HQ in San Francisco with Scott and Julie Brusaw of Solar Roadways. Scott and Julie talk about their journey to fundraising and developing the technology behind solar powered roads. We have a grand vision and we want to help the economy of our country and every country by creating jobs, so we worried about taking on investors or being acquired, and not being able to do that. (Julie, explaining the decision to use crowdfunding.) Their campaign was a huge success and raised over $2.2 million. Solar Roadway’s fanbase has grown into a large network of international supporters. Scott and Julie some of the experiences they’ve had as their fanbase has expanded: I’m walking out to do a trash run in my pajamas and there’s some tall, lanky kid out by the gate waving, saying, “I came all the way from Belgium to talk to you.” I said, “I’m going on a trash run and he said, “Sure.” So he helped me take the trash out. (Scott, talking about one of the many international travelers they’ve had visit.) Recently, Scott and Julie have been working on the new SR3 Panel which has 25% more solar gain and is able to display custom light colors. In addition to the production of their latest prototype, Solar Roadways has been creating public installations. One of the first locations is along Route 66.
