It's Your Heart   /     Peripartum Cardiomyopathy (PPCM) – Noelle Priolo

Description

Heart disease is the leading cause of death among pregnant or postpartum women, yet it is hardly mentioned. Noelle Priolo believes that if she was aware of peripartum cardiomyopathy (PPCM) that she would have gone to the cardiologist when she began having symptoms 34 weeks into her pregnancy. She did go to the ER 3 times pre-birth with high blood pressure, shortness of breath and persistent cough. However, she was dismissed each time. Her symptoms got worse and on the third night home after delivering her daughter, Noelle returned to the ER. This time she was seen by a cardiologist who diagnosed and immediately began treating her for PPCM. She feels fortunate to be alive and has made it her mission to spread awareness about PPCM. Noelle is the Ambassador Co-Chair and the 2015 featured survivor for Go Red for Women Chicago.
